Kirking of the Tartans

The Panama City Scottish Festival was founded by Grace Presbyterian Church 26 years ago, and was held on the grounds of the church for the first 22 years. Grace Presbyterian Church still hosts the Kirking of the Tartans service the Sunday after the Festival.

The tartan is a traditional plaid emblem of a Scottish Clan. Each tartan is a specific pattern of colored and unevenly spaced lines and rectangles on cloth.

“Kirk” is a Scots word for church, and in this usage means “blessing.”

The members of Grace Presbyterian Church invite everyone to attend this very special “Blessing of the Tartan” service. Please wear your tartan kilts and scarves!

Those who wish to carry in a Tartan Banner should arrive no later than 10:15 AM.
